Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended comptrollers in charge of commands along Lagos-Seme border following allegations of extortion involving its personnel.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Friday, the agency said the decision followed reports circulating online accusing some officers at the Seme border of misconduct bordering on extortion. The service noted that the allegations contravene its operational standards and code of conduct.
Comptroller-General of the agency, Kemi Nandap, directed that the affected officers be relieved of their duties pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into the matter.
The agency assured the public that a thorough probe is underway to identify all personnel involved, adding that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken against anyone found culpable.
It reiterated its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and efficient service delivery, while urging Nigerians to report cases of misconduct through official channels.
The service also said it is strengthening internal monitoring mechanisms to ensure accountability and rebuild public confidence in its operations.
