Wike-Backed PDP Commences Screening For Presidential – Governorship Aspirants

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike has begun the screening of aspirants seeking presidential, governorship, and national assembly tickets ahead of the 2027 general election.

Gatekeepers News reports that sccorsing to a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the exercise is being coordinated by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led national working committee (NWC) of the party. The screening process is taking place at the PDP national secretariat annex, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.  

The party disclosed that governorship aspirants were scheduled for screening at noon, while presidential hopefuls were fixed for 2 pm on the same day. Former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was named chairman of the presidential screening committee, with Hassan Sokodobo serving as secretary. Other committee members include former senators George Sekibo and Zainab Kure.  

For the governorship screening panel, former Kaduna governor Ahmed Makarfi was appointed chairman, while George Ariolu serves as secretary alongside other party stakeholders.  

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi Central, confirmed she had successfully completed the screening exercise for the 2027 senatorial election. She said she submitted all required credentials and documents as part of the process.  

Muhammed Abdullahi, popularly known as “Elephant,” also announced that he had been screened and cleared to contest the PDP primary for the Kogi East senatorial district.  

Meanwhile, the PDP faction revealed that 45 aspirants in Cross River State were screened for national assembly and state assembly positions ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for May 21.
