The faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by Nyesom Wike has screened its only presidential aspirant, Sandy Onor, alongside 25 governorship aspirants from 17 states ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that the screening exercise took place on Thursday at the PDP Legacy House in Abuja. According to the party, the process followed the supreme court ruling affirming the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led national working committee.
In a statement signed by Chinwe Nnorom, the party’s national director of publicity, the PDP said only one presidential aspirant and 25 governorship hopefuls were cleared for the exercise, while others are still completing their documentation.
The presidential screening committee was chaired by former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, while former Kaduna Governor Ahmed Makarfi headed the governorship screening panel.
Speaking after the screening, Sandy Onor backed President Bola Tinubu’s fuel subsidy removal policy, describing it as a bold decision that released funds for development, although he stressed the need for greater accountability in governance.
Among those screened for governorship tickets were David Ombugadu, Mustapha Lamido, Kefiano Ropshik, Kayode Ogunshola, Hazeem Gbolarumi, and Samson Nnamani.
PDP said its governorship primaries will hold on May 24, while the presidential primary is scheduled for May 26.
