Manchester City have confirmed that manager Pep Guardiola will step down at the end of the 2025/2026 season, bringing an end to his remarkable decade-long reign at the club.
Gatekeepers News reports that the announcement was made on Friday ahead of City’s final Premier League match against Aston Villa.
Guardiola, who joined City in 2016 from FC Bayern Munich, transformed the club into one of Europe’s most dominant football sides. During his time at the Etihad, he won multiple major trophies, including six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FA Cups and League Cups.
The announcement comes days after City lost the Premier League title race to Arsenal F.C. following a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, which handed Mikel Arteta’s side their first league crown in 22 years.
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak praised Guardiola for reshaping the club, while owner Sheikh Mansour described his impact as “indelible” in reactions released after the announcement.
The club also revealed plans to honour the Spaniard by naming the newly expanded North Stand at the Etihad Stadium after him and commissioning a statue in his honour.
Reports indicate former Chelsea F.C. coach Enzo Maresca is expected to succeed Guardiola after previously serving as part of his coaching staff at City.
