Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reportedly suspended the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Ekiti and Osun States as part of preparations for the upcoming governorship elections in both states.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to reports, the commission said the decision is to enable it to clean up and finalise the voter register ahead of the polls, ensuring only eligible and properly verified voters are included in the final register. The move is also aimed at improving the credibility and organisation of the elections in the two states.
INEC has already scheduled the governorship elections in Ekiti for 20 June 2026 and in Osun for 8 August 2026, with detailed election activities such as party primaries, candidate nomination, and campaigns already outlined for political parties.
The suspension of voter registration is in line with INEC’s standard electoral timetable, which typically halts CVR ahead of major elections to allow for data processing, verification, and logistical preparations.
