Ahmed Galadima has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State after winning the party’s primary election held on Friday in Yola.

Gatekeepers News reports that the former executive secretary of Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) secured 414,444 votes to defeat other contenders in the exercise.

Abdulrazak Namdas, a member of the House of Representatives, came second with 86,004 votes, while Abdulrahman Haske polled 65,424 votes to finish third. The results were announced by Innocent Bariko, chairman of the APC governorship primary election committee.

Galadima’s emergence followed a wave of endorsements and withdrawals by some aspirants ahead of the primary. Former APC north-east vice-chairman Salihu Mustapha had earlier stepped down from the race and endorsed Galadima, saying the decision was made in the interest of party unity.

Before the primary, Joel Madaki also withdrew from the contest and backed Abdulrahman Haske, a development that reshaped alliances within the party ahead of the election.

Galadima, 62, studied agriculture and later obtained a master’s degree in banking and finance from the University of Ibadan. He is expected to lead the APC into the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State, where the party hopes to strengthen its position against rivals.

However, shortly after the exercise, Abdulrahman Haske rejected the outcome of the primary, alleging irregularities in the collation process.
