Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress for the 2027 election after recording a sweeping victory in the party’s nationwide primary election held on Saturday.
Gatekeepers News reports that APC conducted its direct presidential primary across the country’s 8,809 wards, with Tinubu facing Stanley Osifo, his only challenger in the race.
Results announced from several states showed the president secured landslide victories, while Osifo recorded little or no votes in many areas.
In Rivers State, Tinubu polled 280,468 votes across the 23 local government areas, while Osifo reportedly scored zero votes. In Edo State, the president secured 131,096 votes, with his challenger getting only one vote.
Similar results were recorded in other states, including Gombe, Osun and Ebonyi, where Tinubu overwhelmingly dominated the exercise. APC governors and party leaders supervised the primaries as state collation officers.
After casting his vote in Ikoyi, Lagos, Tinubu described democracy as something sustained by citizens and not “noise or borrowed platforms.”
The president will officially receive the APC certificate of return and the party’s flag on Sunday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The event is expected to be attended by APC governors, members of the National Executive Committee, National Working Committee, lawmakers and other party stakeholders.
Ahead of the exercise, Tinubu had urged party members to ensure peaceful primaries and avoid divisive politics, saying the process should strengthen the unity of the ruling party ahead of the general election.
