A faction of African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved the National Working Committee (NWC) led by former Senate President David Mark and endorsed Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Gatekeepers News reports that the decision was announced during the faction’s national convention and presidential primary held in Abuja, where delegates adopted Kachikwu through a voice vote.

The group also unveiled a new leadership team, appointing Abdulkadir Bashir as national chairman, Johnny Derek as deputy national chairman, Kennedy Odion as national secretary, and Joe Aro as national treasurer.

Speaking after his emergence, Bashir urged party members to remain united and avoid actions capable of worsening divisions within the party. He also appealed to aggrieved members to support the faction ahead of the 2027 general election.

Kachikwu, who flew the ADC flag in the 2023 presidential election, has repeatedly challenged the legitimacy of the David Mark-led leadership. He recently argued that neither Mark nor Nafiu Bala had a lawful claim to the party structure following court rulings on the leadership tussle.

ADC has witnessed prolonged leadership disputes, with different factions laying claim to the party structure. Earlier this year, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suspended recognition of all factions because of pending court cases before later restoring recognition to David Mark-led camp.
