National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched a dedicated radio station, Clean Beat 91.5 FM, as part of efforts to strengthen public enlightenment against drug abuse in Nigeria.
Gatekeeepers News reports that the station was officially inaugurated in Abuja as part of the agency’s broader War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign aimed at preventing substance abuse, especially among young people.
Speaking at the event, NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (retd.), warned against what he described as the growing normalisation of drug use in society and its increasing glamorisation in popular culture, which he said is influencing young people negatively.
He explained that the radio platform would serve as a tool for awareness creation, sharing recovery stories, and educating the public on the dangers of drug abuse. Marwa added that while enforcement remains important, prevention through education is key to addressing the drug crisis.
He also urged stakeholders in the entertainment industry and other sectors to support efforts aimed at discouraging the promotion of drug use as a lifestyle.
Partners, including representatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), commended the initiative, describing it as a strong step toward combining enforcement with sustained public awareness.
