Three worshippers were killed while 15 others were abducted after gunmen invaded a prayer ground in Kwara State during a night vigil.
Gatekeepers News reports that the attack occurred on Saturday at the Ori-Oke Ajaiye prayer ground located on the outskirts of Ikiran village in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Kwara State Police Command, the assailants stormed the area around 8pm and attacked worshippers who were gathered for prayers.
In a statement issued by Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson of the command, the police said the attackers killed three persons before forcefully taking away 15 others to an unknown destination. The command described the incident as gruesome and condemned the attack on innocent worshippers.
Security operatives, local vigilantes and community hunters were reportedly deployed to the area shortly after the incident, with search operations launched in nearby forests to rescue the abducted victims and track down the attackers.
The latest incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara State, especially in border communities that have witnessed recurring attacks and abductions in recent months.
