West Ham United have been relegated from the Premier League after a 14-year stay in England’s top flight, while Tottenham Hotspur secured survival on the final day of the season.
Gatekeepers News reports that West Ham defeated Leeds United 3-0 in their last league game, but the result was not enough to keep them up because Tottenham also won their match against Everton. Spurs claimed a crucial 1-0 victory to finish two points above the relegation zone.
The Hammers, who returned to the Premier League in 2012, will now play in the Championship next season alongside Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Tottenham’s survival came under recently appointed manager Roberto De Zerbi, who guided the club through a tense end to the campaign after replacing previous coaches during the season. Midfielder João Palhinha scored the decisive goal against Everton to help Spurs avoid relegation.
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen expressed disappointment after the relegation, admitting the club had not done enough to stay in the division.
The relegation marks another major setback for the London club, which won UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023 and had recently competed regularly in European football.
