A former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.), and his wife have been abducted by suspected armed bandits in Katsina State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident happened on Saturday along the Matazu axis while the retired military officer was travelling with his wife to Katsina. The attackers reportedly intercepted their vehicle and whisked them away to an unknown location.
Security sources said the armed men blocked the vehicle and carried out the abduction during the attack, while the driver of the vehicle was also targeted but managed to escape with injuries. The vehicle used by the retired general was later recovered and taken to a police station in the area.
Reports also indicate that an informal security message circulating among military contacts confirmed the abduction, urging security agencies to act swiftly to secure the release of the victims.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Katsina State Police Command or the military authorities regarding the incident, while efforts are believed to be ongoing to track the victims and apprehend the attackers.
The incident adds to ongoing security concerns in parts of northern Nigeria, where cases of kidnappings and bandit attacks continue to be reported.
