Shakira Hails Burna Boy’s Role In FIFA World Cup Song

Colombian music star Shakira has praised Nigerian Afrofusion sensation Burna Boy for his contribution to “Dai Dai,” the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing his performance as the “cherry on top” of the project.

Gatekeepers News reports that speaking in an interview with People magazine, Shakira said she had long hoped to collaborate with the Grammy-winning Nigerian star. According to her, creating the song’s melody, lyrics and overall concept came naturally, but Burna Boy’s vocals elevated the track to another level.

“It was very easy to come up with the melody, the lyrics, the concept, and then obviously when I had Burna Boy recorded, that was like the cherry on top. I always wanted to do something with Burna, and I think that his voice just takes it to another level.”

The singer explained that “Dai Dai” goes beyond football and carries a message of hope for children around the world. She said the song is meant to encourage young people to pursue their dreams regardless of the obstacles they face and to remind society of the importance of supporting them through quality education.

“The song is much more than a World Cup song. It is a message for every child who has been told that their dream is too big, and a reminder that every champion was once a child who may have gone through hardship and struggle.”

Shakira added that access to education remains one of the most valuable opportunities society can provide for children, noting that the World Cup platform can help amplify the voices of those who are often overlooked.

“Dai Dai” was released in May as the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and also supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million to provide children worldwide with access to education and football opportunities. Royalties from the song will contribute to the initiative.

The track blends Afrobeats and Latin influences and forms part of FIFA’s official World Cup music project ahead of the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Shakira is also set to perform at the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show in July.
