Two female students participating in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and a commercial motorcyclist lost their lives in a road accident on Wednesday along Choba Bridge on the East–West Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the victims were reportedly returning home from their examination centre when the motorcycles conveying them collided with a moving truck.

Eyewitnesses said the students had just completed their WAEC examination at Odoha Community Secondary School in Emohua Local Government Area before the tragic incident occurred.

“The students were coming back from Odoha Community Secondary School, Emohua LGA of Rivers after writing the WAEC exams,” a source said.

“It happened today. Three people died: one okada rider and two WAEC female students.”

Another witness explained that the examination centre was located about 30 minutes from the accident scene near Choba Bridge, a major route in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

“Choba is the host community to the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT),” the source added.

Several other passengers reportedly sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.

Operatives of the Choba Divisional Police Headquarters were deployed to the scene to restore order and manage traffic following the incident.

A video shared on social media platform X showed the victims lying on the road after the collision.

As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had yet to issue an official statement on the accident.
