Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum on Wednessday launched the sales ferterlizer at 50% subsidy to farmers to mark the commencement of 2026 Farming season in the state .
Gatekeepers News reports that the initiative , according to the Governor is aimed at boosting agricultural productivit and enhancing food security across the state.
Zulum made the disclosure in Kwaya – Kusar Local Government Area of the state, venue of this year’s luanch of the farming season.
Accoding to Zulum , ” This occasion is not just a commencement of another farming season, but a clear reaffirmation of our administration’s enduring commitments to the welfare of our resilient farmers and our unwavering belief that agriculture remains the most reliably viable pathway to economic recovery, poverty reduction, food security, job creation and sustainable development
‘ Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to announce that for the 2026 Wet Farming Season, the Borno State Government has procured 200 truckloads of high quality NPK Fertilizer which will be sold to farmers at a subsidy of 50 % of the prevailing market price. This represents a significant increase compared to the 75 truckloads distributed during the last farming season. The increase is well informed by the growing number of farmers returning to cultivation, the expansion of cultivated land across the State, improved access to farming communities, and our administration’s determination to increase food production and strengthen food security.” Zulum said .
The governor explained that the subsidy being provided by State Government” under this intervention translate into direct savings of billions of Naira for farmers across Borno State. This is indeed a significant investment in the welfare of our farming population and a practical demonstration of our commitment to reducing farm production costs and enhancing farm profitability.
“Beyond Fertilizers, State Government will also distribute 40,000 litres of Agrochemicals, 5,000 Water Pumps, 5,000 Knapsack Sprayers, 10,000 Bicycles and other essential farm inputs to over 50,000 profiled beneficiaries’ farmers across the State to ensure that farmers receive support across all Agricultural Value Chain.” The Governor revealed .
