A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has ordered the remand of former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application.
Gatekeepers News reports that the court, presided over by Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf Kekemeke, adjourned the case until July 15, 2026, for the hearing and determination of the bail request.
Umar was arraigned on charges bordering on alleged abuse of office and conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as CCT chairman. He pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him, prompting his counsel to apply for bail, while the prosecution opposed immediate release and asked the court to remand him pending the bail hearing.
The former CCT chairman was replaced in 2024 after President Bola Tinubu appointed Mainasara Umar Kogo to head the tribunal. His latest arraignment marks another chapter in the legal challenges surrounding his tenure, with the court expected to decide on his bail application at the next sitting.
