Security operatives have rescued four persons abducted during Tuesday’s attack on Government Secondary School, Olowa, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the victims were among those kidnapped when armed men invaded the school while students were writing the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.
The Kogi State Government confirmed the rescue in a statement issued on Thursday, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in efforts to secure the release of those abducted. The government commended security agencies for their swift response and sustained operations, noting that efforts are continuing to ensure the safety of everyone affected by the incident.
The attack occurred on Tuesday when gunmen stormed the school, abducting the principal, a NECO ad hoc official and four students, causing panic among candidates and residents. The incident drew widespread condemnation and renewed concerns over the safety of schools during public examinations.
The state government reassured residents that security agencies remain on the trail of the perpetrators and urged members of the public to remain calm while supporting ongoing efforts to improve security across the state.
