Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has made history as she emerges the next president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), becoming only the second woman to lead the association.

Gatekeepers News reports that Badejo-Okusanya, the only female candidate among the three contenders in the 2026 NBA presidential election, secured 12,317 votes to defeat her two challengers.

She polled 47.18 percent of the 26,106 ballots cast in the election, which was conducted through electronic voting over a 24-hour period, beginning at 7:35 a.m. on Saturday and ending at 7:34 a.m. on Sunday.

The final tally released by the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) confirmed her victory, marking a significant milestone in the history of Nigeria’s legal profession.

Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence follows in the footsteps of Priscilla Olabori Kuye, who became the first female NBA president and served from 1991 to 1992.

With her election, Badejo-Okusanya joins the exclusive list of women who have led the NBA in its more than six-decade history.
