Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports alleging that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is under investigation over an alleged visa fraud scheme involving some immigration officers.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale described the reports as false, stressing that the commission has no case against the Immigration chief.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is aware of reports in the media about alleged visa racketeering involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, especially subtle insinuations about assumed investigation of the Comptroller General of the Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap.”
“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG.”
Oyewale explained that although the EFCC is prosecuting some immigration officers over alleged visa fraud, Nandap is not connected to the ongoing investigations in any way. He added that investigations are continuing and could result in the arraignment of more officers suspected of involvement in fraudulent visa-related activities.
“There are subsisting cases of alleged visa fraud against some immigration officers at the Federal High Court. Further investigations are ongoing with the possibility that more NIS officers could be arraigned for alleged fraudulent practices in the near future.
“However, the Immigration CG is not remotely connected to these investigations.”
EFCC also urged media organisations to verify information with the commission before publishing reports concerning its investigations and activities.
