Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, national chairman of the interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged Nigerians to remain firm and reject inducements and intimidation ahead of future elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that Turaki made the call in a statement to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday.
He recalled the sacrifices made by Nigeria’s founding fathers in their pursuit of self-rule, saying they envisioned a country founded on prosperity, equality, equity and justice.
According to him, the country’s forebears rejected inducements and resisted threats when the opportunity for self-rule came, adding that they “did not delay, and did not miss their moment.”
“As Nigeria turns 66, it is our turn to rise. Nigerians must rise in unison to shun inducement and stand firm against intimidation,” he said.
Turaki urged Nigerians to be determined to elect, at the earliest opportunity, a government that would build a country that works for everyone.
He said such a government should prioritise security, economic opportunities, unity and justice.
“That responsibility now rests on us at the ballot box. This is our own time, and we must not let it pass,” the PDP chairman said.
He wished Nigerians a happy Independence Anniversary.
