All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has challenged the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Manir Dan Iya, to account for the achievements of the administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, in which he served as deputy governor.

Gatekeepers News reports that the party was reacting to a statement by Dan Iya challenging the Sokoto State Government to disclose the amount it had received from the Federation Account between 2023 and 2026.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, said allocations to states from the Federation Account were already in the public domain.

APC said the demand was unnecessary, arguing that the information was accessible through official channels.

The party also defended Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration, saying it operated on the principles of accountability, transparency and prudent management of public resources. It added that decisions taken at State Executive Council meetings, including approvals for projects, were made public.

APC, however, criticised the previous administration, alleging that despite receiving billions of naira in monthly allocations, bailouts and other intervention funds, it left behind outstanding liabilities and inadequate development projects.

According to the party, the previous administration left pensioners waiting for their gratuities for six years, failed to provide monthly imprest to ministries, departments and agencies, and accumulated debts.

It also alleged that workers under Tambuwal experienced delays in salary payments, with some receiving less than their expected entitlements.

The party further claimed that when Aliyu assumed office in May 2023, educational institutions and the Government House were affected by electricity disconnections linked to unpaid bills running into billions of naira.

It said the state also inherited outstanding student registration and tuition fees exceeding N5 billion, alongside unpaid sabbatical allowances for visiting lecturers.

Bawa said the current administration had cleared the inherited liabilities, including outstanding payments owed to students.

He added that the Aliyu administration had implemented the new minimum wage for state and local government workers, including Local Government Education Authority staff.

The party also listed the recruitment of 3,100 workers deployed to various ministries, departments and agencies, 2,400 health workers and 1,550 personnel for the Sokoto Marshall among the administration’s achievements.

It said the government had also embarked on projects in road infrastructure, security, water supply, religious affairs, education, rural development and healthcare.

APC further stated that some projects awarded but abandoned under the previous administration, including the Rijiya Flyover and Tashar Illela Road project, had either been completed or were at various stages of completion under Aliyu.

The party said it would campaign for re-election based on the projects and achievements of the current administration.

It challenged Dan Iya to explain what the Tambuwal administration accomplished during his tenure as deputy governor, insisting that the question would remain part of its campaign message.
