Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has declared a five-day period of national mourning following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on Sunday in the East Azerbaijan province, claiming the lives of Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and seven others.

In an official statement, Khamenei expressed his condolences to the Iranian people, saying, “I announce five days of public mourning and offer my condolences to the dear people of Iran.”

The crash occurred while Raisi and Amir-Abdollahian were returning from a ceremony to inaugurate a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan.

According to the Iranian constitution, the three heads of the branches of government must arrange for an election and elect a new leader within 50 days of assuming the role of acting President. This process will ensure a smooth transition of power and maintain stability in the country during this difficult time.
