Bishop Amakiri, National Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), has criticised the opposition coalition, stating that most of its leaders have failed Nigerians in the past and lack the moral authority to offer meaningful change.

Gatekeepers News reports that Amakiri said this on Monday when he featured as a guest on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

“I have a problem, and it is whether 85 per cent of people in that coalition have the moral justification to tell us about a coalition that will liberate the Nigerian people,” Amakiri said.

“These are people who once threatened the sovereignty of a nation. Now they’re telling us they want to form a coalition? They have nothing to offer. They’re just political power mongers trying to advance their interests.”

Amakiri questioned the viability of a group consisting largely of those who have already failed the nation, likening the coalition to a repeat of events in 2015.

“It’s the same thing they did in 2015 when they just wanted to kick out a president who was doing very okay. We had people in this country threaten to make the government ungovernable. Is this the kind of people we want to see forming a coalition again?”

The YPP leader defended his party’s ideological stance and long-term strategy, saying, “We’re not in a hurry to produce a president. Our major ambition is to take over the parliament… We’re constrained, but we’re focused.”

The opposition coalition is championed by opposition figures like former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai and former Senate President David Mark, former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
