FAAN Issues Advisory As Reconstruction Of Lagos Airport Terminal One Begins

Reconstruction work has started at Terminal One of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

Gatekeepers News reports that Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in a travel advisory released on Friday, urged passengers to plan ahead and adjust their schedules to avoid disruptions.

It said, “To ensure a smooth travel experience, we kindly request that passengers leave early for the airport to avoid missing flights, obey all traffic instructions to aid traffic flow, park vehicles properly in designated car park areas.”

FAAN noted that only those with confirmed travel plans should access the airport during the construction period, citing limited space.

The advisory comes after the federal executive council (FEC) approved over N900 billion worth of contracts on August 1 to enhance aviation infrastructure nationwide.

Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation, disclosed that the most significant of these projects is the comprehensive rehabilitation, upgrade, and modernisation of MMIA’s Terminal One.

He explained that the project will involve stripping the terminal down to its foundation before rebuilding all critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

According to him, the total cost for the rehabilitation stands at N712.25 billion and is expected to be completed within 22 months.
