Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed that the federal government will intensify military operations against terrorists.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima revealed that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making heavy investments in military hardware.
The Vice President made this known in a condolence message on Monday following the recent assault on the Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, where both civilians and military personnel were killed.
Shettima extended his sympathies to the state and its people, describing the incident as a national tragedy.
He said, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots. These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”
The VP reiterated President Tinubu’s directive to the Armed Forces to overhaul security strategies and ensure the deployment of advanced surveillance tools and equipment to eliminate terrorist groups across the country.
Shettima also noted Tinubu’s approval for the purchase of more drones and his order to security agencies to strengthen operational tactics.
He noted that the federal government is considering the creation of state police, underscoring Tinubu’s stance that certain security challenges require localised solutions, with specialised units capable of operating effectively within their cultural and geographical context.
Shettima assured Borno State and affected families of the federal government’s ongoing support and offered prayers for the souls of the departed.
