First Lady Raises N20.4bn For National Library Project

The National Library fund launched by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has so far generated N20.4 billion within one week of its introduction.

Gatekeepers News reports that the First Lady revealed this to journalists at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja on Tuesday.

She said, “So far, we have raised N20.4 billion since this fund launched last week, and more are still coming.”

Recall that the First Lady unveiled the initiative which was tied to her 65th birthday in a statement she personally signed on September 18, 2025.

Instead of gifts or newspaper advertisements, she appealed to friends and well-wishers to contribute to the completion of the long-stalled National Library headquarters in Abuja.

The National Library project, first proposed in 1981, has faced repeated delays. Construction of the 12-storey headquarters began in 2006 with an initial contract sum of N8.59 billion, expected to be completed in less than two years.

However, cost escalations and slow progress have left the project unfinished, with estimates in 2023 placing completion requirements between N49.6 billion and over N120 billion.
