Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has debunked reports linking him to the purported 2027 presidential campaign of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Gatekeepers News reports that Mimiko described the claims that he was appointed as the South-West coordinator of Jonathan’s alleged consultation team as baseless, stressing that neither he nor Jonathan is involved in any political campaign or seeking appointments.
Some media outlets had earlier reported that Mimiko was selected to lead consultations for Jonathan’s supposed 2027 political move, allegedly on the recommendation of former Osun State governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola.
While Jonathan has not declared any intention to contest the 2027 general election, rumours about his possible return to the political scene have persisted.
In a statement issued by his former Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, Mimiko dismissed the report as a fabrication lacking any iota of truth.
“The falsehood in the report is obvious from the start. It is just the work of a journalist flying with concocted rumours dressed as news,” Akinsola said.
“The Mimiko that I know respects former President Jonathan but has neither been contacted nor appointed for any campaign that remains a subject of speculation. He is also not job-hunting.”
Akinsola further suggested that the story was politically motivated.
“As politics gathers momentum, such fabricated stories will not be scarce, especially about political figures like Iroko, who have chosen to stay low for now,” he added.
