Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has suspended the enforcement of the tinted glass permit for vehicles after receiving a court directive ordering the exercise to stop.
Gatekeepers News reports that confirming the development on Wednesday during an interview with Africa Independent Television (AIT), SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, said the suspension took immediate effect once the court order was officially received.
Adeh said, “Information reaching me from the office of the PRO is that the order has been received and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict.”
She stressed that the directive would remain in effect until the ongoing legal process concludes.
The spokesperson added, “We are waiting for the verdict. We are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until we get a verdict.”
Addressing public concerns, Adeh explained that the regulation on tinted glass was originally designed for security purposes, noting that criminals often used vehicles with darkened windows to evade detection.
She said, “The law was not made by us. We are enforcers. The policy was purely security-driven. Some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects.”
Adeh also dismissed claims that the permit policy was meant for revenue generation, clarifying that all payments go directly into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA) rather than to the police.
