Nigeria Storm Into U-17 Women’s World Cup Knockouts After 4-0 Win Over Samoa

Nigeria thrashed Samoa U‑17 Women’s Team 4–0 to secure a spot in the last 16 in the 2025 FIFA U‑17 Women’s World Cup.

Gatekeepers News reports that theee of the goals came in the opening 34 minutes, putting the match beyond doubt early on (Friends of Football NZ, 2025).

Queen Joseph opened the scoring in the 13th minute after making a sharp run behind the Samoan defence and finishing into the bottom-right corner (Friends of Football NZ, 2025).

Then, in the 28th minute, the Nigerian skipper Shakirat Moshood stepped up to convert a penalty, awarded after a VAR review. By the 34th minute, Joseph wrapped up her brace following a fine assist (Friends of Football NZ, 2025).

In the second half, Samoa looked more alive, but couldn’t find the net. Nigeria added a fourth when Azeezat Oduntan curled a lovely shot into the top-corner in the 67th minute, sealing their progression to the knockout stage (Friends of Football NZ, 2025).

Earlier in the group, Nigeria had lost their first two matches – to Canada and France – putting them under real pressure ahead of this final match (Premium Times NG, 2025). A win by at least two goals over Samoa was necessary to enhance their chances of advancing (Premium Times NG, 2025).

With this strong victory, Nigeria finished third in Group D and moved on as one of the best third-placed teams.
