Governors elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) have restated their commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform programme after a two-day meeting in Lagos.

Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting, which was held from Friday to Saturday, was convened by Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo, and hosted by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos.

In a communique signed by Uzodimma on Saturday, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) said the gathering allowed them to harmonise state priorities with national policies and renew their commitment to governance that directly benefits citizens.

The forum said government reforms must always focus on improving the welfare of people across all groups.

The Governors praised President Tinubu for efforts aimed at stabilising the economy, improving security, and supporting growth. They highlighted ongoing federal interventions in food security, electricity, transportation, infrastructure, and social investment.

The communique reads, The Forum noted ongoing efforts at food security, power sector improvement, transport and infrastructure upgrades, social investment, and support for productive enterprises, and pledged to align state policies to maximize the benefits of these reforms for citizens in every ward and community,” the communique read. The forum also noted the temporary hardship caused by major economic adjustments and acknowledged the resilience shown by Nigerians.

Governors expressed appreciation for the sacrifices being made and promised to scale up state-level measures in food production, support for small businesses, youth employment, social protection, and targeted assistance for low-income households.

They said,” We, the Progressive Governors, are committed to working closely with Federal institutions, the National Economic Council and Local Governments to ensure that things keep improving, that no group is left behind, and that the gains of reforms continue to translate into visible improvements in the quality of life of the people.”

The PGF reviewed the security situation and commended the improved cooperation among security agencies. It also praised the dedication of officers and volunteers.

The governors said they would strengthen local security structures across APC-controlled states.

“The PGF resolved to continue strengthening community-based security initiatives, intelligence gathering, conflict-prevention mechanisms and support for victims of violence and disaster,” the statement read.

The forum emphasised the need for unity, inter-faith harmony and inter-ethnic understanding, urging leaders at all levels to promote moderation and reject hate speech and criminality.

The PGF reaffirmed loyalty to the APC, commended the party leadership for enhancing internal democracy and pledged to contribute to party stability.

The Governors restated their full support for Tinubu’s reform efforts and vowed to deliver governance focused on development and citizens’ welfare.

They also expressed confidence in the country’s future and encouraged Nigerians to carry out their daily activities without fear.
