Lagos State Government has announced extensive traffic restrictions across key parts of Lagos Island ahead of Eyo Festival scheduled for Saturday, December 27, 2025.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a travel advisory issued by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), motorists were informed that major routes along Adeniji Adele, CMS, Marina, and surrounding areas will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement to allow for the safe passage of the Eyo masquerade procession.
The advisory, which followed the official declaration of the festival by Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, stated that the restrictions are aimed at maintaining public safety, ensuring crowd control, and preserving the cultural rites associated with the annual festival.
According to LASTMA, traffic disruptions will affect major corridors linking Lagos Island with the mainland, including routes connected to the Third Mainland Bridge, Obalende, Onikan, Apongbon, and Idumota.
The agency noted that traffic officers would be deployed to diversion points to manage movement and minimise congestion.
Motorists were advised to plan their journeys ahead of time and make use of alternative routes through Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Dolphin Estate, Eko Bridge, and Lekki-Epe Expressway, depending on their destinations.
Residents and road users were also urged to comply with traffic officials and follow all directional signs during the period of the festival.
The state government added that security agencies and emergency responders will be stationed across strategic locations, as the Eyo Festival is expected to attract large crowds of spectators, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts.
Speaking earlier at Ijade Opa Eyo ceremony held at Marina, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed satisfaction that the festival would hold this year, noting that it remains a vital platform for projecting Lagos’ cultural heritage to a global audience.
LASTMA appealed for public cooperation, stressing that the traffic restrictions are temporary and necessary for the successful and orderly celebration of the historic festival.
