Plateau Governor Mutfwang Resigns From PDP

Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has officially resigned from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), paving the way for his expected defection to All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gatekeepers News reports that in a letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Ampang West, Mangu Local Government Area, Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the party for providing him a platform to serve but said he now seeks a political platform that allows him to deliver “purposeful leadership” to the people.

The letter read, “I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect. I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me with the political platform to participate in the democratic process.”

“I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me. Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform.”

According to reports, Mutfwang has been under pressure from political figures to join APC, with his formal declaration for the ruling party expected before the end of January 2026.

With his resignation, PDP now has only four serving Governors: Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.
