Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has told its affiliated unions in Abuja to keep up the industrial action by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), even after a National Industrial Court ordered that the strike be suspended.
Gatekeepers News reports that the labour centre issued a circular dated January 27, 2026, signed by Acting General Secretary Benson Upah, urging union leaders to stand firm until unresolved issues are dealt with.
In a letter to the presidents and general secretaries of Abuja-based unions, the NLC said it was backing its earlier directive for the strike to continue and that the action should be intensified until the workers’ demands are met.
The circular pointed to concerns including unpaid wage awards, promotion backlog, and failure to remit pension and National Housing Fund deductions as reasons the strike must go on.
“We hereby reaffirm and reinforce the directive to all affiliate unions in the FCT to not only proceed with the ongoing action but to intensify and sustain it until all workers’ demands are fully addressed,” the circular reads.
The NLC also called on members to join daily prayer and solidarity sessions, and warned that ending the industrial action now could encourage more violations of workers’ rights. “This struggle demands unity, discipline, and unwavering commitment,” it stated.
The National Industrial Court in Abuja had on Tuesday ruled that the strike must stop while the dispute is before the court and ordered striking workers to return to their duties.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has supported the court’s decision, saying workers who fail to resume work may face consequences.
