National Industrial Court in Abuja has barred Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and some union leaders from going ahead with a planned protest in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Gatekeepers News reports that Justice Emmanuel Sibilim granted the order on Monday after hearing an ex parte application brought by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA).
The court specifically stopped the first to fifth defendants and their agents from carrying out any protest or industrial action until a full hearing is held.
The suit filed by the FCT Minister argued that union leaders were mobilising workers for a mass protest despite an existing court order issued on January 27 that had already restrained strike action.
The court heard that the NLC and TUC had told their affiliates to resume the strike and ignored the earlier ruling, prompting the fresh application for an injunction.
Security agencies named in the case were also directed to maintain law and order in the FCT ahead of Tuesday’s protest date.
The planned rally was to show solidarity with staff of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) who have been on strike since January over unpaid wages and welfare concerns, a dispute that has shut key offices and services in Abuja.
The court adjourned the matter until February 10 for a hearing of the motion on notice.
