Yusuf Tuggar, minister of foreign affairs, on Wednesday received Muhannad Halmouri, Palestine’s ambassador to Nigeria, during a courtesy visit to his office.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement, Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson of the ministry, said the discussion focused on strengthening ties between Nigeria and Palestine, as both parties explored ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.
Ebienfa explained that the meeting formed part of Nigeria’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to expand its relationship with Palestine and also served as an avenue to review consular matters, humanitarian concerns, and regional developments affecting both countries.
During the engagement, the Palestinian envoy thanked Nigeria for its consistent support for Palestine’s sovereignty over the years.
Halmouri also updated Tuggar on the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, citing continued security pressures and limited access to relief assistance.
He praised Nigeria for backing peaceful approaches to resolving the conflict, stressing that such efforts align with international law and ethical principles.
The ambassador further revealed that Palestine is considering an official visit to Nigeria by its minister of foreign affairs.
“He indicated that such a visit could include high-level engagements and possible interaction with Nigeria’s National Assembly, in line with established diplomatic protocols,” the statement reads.
Ebienfa said Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, while restating the country’s commitment to justice, peaceful coexistence, and respect for international law.
He added that the minister assured the ambassador that the issues raised would be reviewed through relevant diplomatic and administrative channels, in line with Nigeria’s foreign policy direction.
