Suspected gunmen have attacked a church in Ondo State, abducting six worshippers during an early-morning service in Uso community, Owo Local Government Area.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred around 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday when the armed assailants stormed a branch of the Celestial Church of Christ located along the Uso–Owo Expressway and forcefully whisked away the victims to an unknown destination.
Confirming the attack, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately launched coordinated rescue operations upon receiving the distress call.
He disclosed that one of the abducted worshippers had been successfully rescued. At the same time, a suspected informant linked to the incident had been arrested and was currently assisting security agencies with ongoing investigations.
Jimoh added that intensive security operations were underway to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the arrest of all those responsible for the attack. He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid rescue efforts.
The attack has heightened tension in the Uso community and surrounding areas, as residents expressed concern over the growing insecurity along the Akure–Owo highway corridor.
Security agencies have reassured the public of their commitment to restoring safety and preventing further incidents.
