Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says electricity distribution companies (DisCos) generated about N207.49 billion from customers in December 2025, out of the N258.66 billion billed during the month.

Gatekeepers News reports that the figures were disclosed in the commission’s commercial performance factsheet for December, which tracks the billing and revenue collection activities of power distribution companies across the country.

According to the report, the revenue collected in December was slightly lower than the N208.78 billion recorded in November 2025, reflecting a marginal decline of 0.02 percent.

NERC noted that although the total amount billed to electricity consumers dropped during the period, the efficiency of revenue collection by the distribution companies improved.

The commission explained that DisCos issued customer bills worth N258.66 billion in December, representing a 4 percent decline from the N269.43 billion billed in November.

However, collection efficiency improved to 80.22 percent in December, compared with 77.49 percent in November, indicating that a higher proportion of billed revenue was successfully recovered from customers.

The report also showed that the total value of electricity supplied to the distribution companies during the month stood at N309.65 billion, which represents a 9.54 percent drop from the N342.29 billion recorded in November.

In terms of performance, Eko Electricity Distribution Company recorded the highest revenue recovery rate at 99.45 percent, meaning the company was able to recover almost all of the revenue it was expected to collect.

Other DisCos that recorded strong recovery rates include Yola DisCo with 87.89 percent, Ikeja DisCo with 85.32 percent, and Abuja DisCo with 84.43 percent.

Meanwhile, Benin DisCo achieved 71.36 percent, Ibadan DisCo 73.19 percent, Enugu DisCo 73.50 percent, while Port Harcourt DisCo posted 79.29 percent, reflecting moderate recovery levels.

NERC stated that the performance data provides insight into how effectively distribution companies are managing electricity billing and revenue collection, which are crucial factors for improving liquidity and strengthening operations in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
