Eight Kano Reps Defect From NNPP To APC

Eight members of the House of Representatives from Kano State have officially defected from New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to All Progressives Congress (APC), in a move that further reshapes the political landscape in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read the defection letters of the lawmakers during plenary on Tuesday. The legislators attributed their decision to ongoing internal crises within the NNPP, which they said had made the party difficult to remain in.

Among those who switched parties are Ghali Mustapha, Shehu Bello, Dankawu Idris, Hussain Hassan Shehu, Rabiu Yusuf, Garba Chiroma, Ibrahim Mohammed, Tijjani Jobe, and Aliyu Madaki, the deputy minority leader.

The defection drew the presence of key political figures, including Kano State governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje, alongside other APC stakeholders who attended the plenary session.

The development is part of a broader wave of defections in Kano, following earlier exits by the governor and other political office holders from the NNPP, largely driven by prolonged leadership disputes and internal divisions within the party.
