Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the first batch of results for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Gatekeepers News reports that the examination mord also announced the arrest of two candidates and a parent over alleged result falsification using artificial intelligence.
According to JAMB, a total of 632,788 candidates who sat for the exam on April 16 have had their results released so far, out of the over 2.2 million expected participants nationwide.
The board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed that the suspects were taken into custody for manipulating official SMS result notifications to alter scores and mislead others, including parents and guardians.
He warned that tampering with UTME results—especially through AI and other electronic means—is a serious criminal offence and that anyone found guilty will face legal consequences.
JAMB also cautioned candidates against attempting to modify the results sent via its official SMS platforms (55019 and 66019), stressing that such acts undermine the integrity of the examination process.
Candidates can currently check their results by sending “UTMERESULT” via SMS using the phone number linked to their registration, although printing of result slips will be enabled later.
The examination, which began on April 16, is ongoing and results will continue to be released in batches as the process progresses.
