A federal high court in Abuja has set aside previous orders that restrained Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating companies linked to the Nestoil Group.
Gatekeepers News reports that the court vacated earlier ex parte orders that had stopped the anti-graft agency from probing Amaranta Oil and Gas Development Limited and Jonescreek Hydrocarbon Limited—both affiliated with Nestoil.
The ruling effectively removes legal barriers that had prevented the EFCC from carrying out investigations into the firms over alleged criminal infractions. The court also nullified a similar order issued on March 2, 2026, which had barred the commission from probing Amaranta Oil.
Court documents revealed that the companies had initially filed suits against the EFCC and several financial institutions, including First Bank, Access Bank, Zenith Bank, and Fidelity Bank, among others.
EFCC, however, challenged the restraining orders through a motion filed in March, asking the court to set them aside, strike out the suits, and dismiss them for being an abuse of court process.
In its ruling delivered on April 15, 2026, the court granted the EFCC’s application and ordered that the interim injunctions be rescinded, thereby allowing the commission to proceed with its investigation.
