Atiku Submits ADC Presidential Nomination Form

Atiku Abubakar has formally submitted his presidential nomination form at the national headquarters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the former vice-president announced the development in a post shared on his X page, accompanied by photos and a video showing him at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.

“The march to restore prosperity and better days to our beloved nation took a firm and decisive step forward today at the National Secretariat of our great party, the African Democratic Congress,” Atiku wrote.

“This is more than a political journey; it is a national movement rooted in hope, renewal, and the collective resolve to save Nigeria from despair.”

He also called on Nigerians across religious, ethnic, and regional lines to support his ambition.

“Together, we will restore the promise of our nation and bring good times back again,” he added.

Atiku has contested for Nigeria’s presidency six times and has appeared on the presidential ballot on three occasions — in 2007, 2019, and 2023.

In the 2023 presidential election, he ran on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polling 6,984,520 votes to finish second behind Bola Tinubu, who secured 8,794,726 votes.

His presidential ambition dates back to 1993 when he contested under the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

In 2007, Atiku emerged as the presidential candidate of the Action Congress (AC), but lost the election to late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua of the PDP, while Muhammadu Buhari of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) came second.

He also sought the PDP presidential ticket in 2011 but lost to then-incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

Atiku later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and contested its presidential primary in 2015 but was defeated by Buhari, who subsequently won the general election.

He returned to the PDP ahead of the 2019 elections and secured the party’s ticket, eventually losing the presidential contest to Buhari after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the former president winner.
