Nigeria’s Inflation Rises To 15.6% Amid Rising Food – Transport Costs

Nigeria’s headline inflation rate has risen to about 15.6 percent, marking another increase in the country’s cost of living pressures.

Gatekeepers News reports that this was according to the latest figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The rise reflects growing prices of food items, transportation, and other household expenses across the country.

Data from the NBS showed that inflation had earlier climbed from 15.06 percent in February to 15.38 percent in March 2026, ending nearly a year of declining inflation figures.

Reports indicated that higher transportation costs, energy prices, and increases in food prices contributed significantly to the upward trend.

The inflation remained a major driver of the increase, with states such as Bayelsa, Sokoto, and Adamawa recording some of the highest food price increases in the country. The report also noted that urban and rural inflation rates both recorded increases during the period under review.

Economic analysts linked the latest rise to fuel price pressures and increased logistics costs affecting businesses and consumers nationwide.
