A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, bail in the sum of N100 million over allegations of unlawful interception of telephone communications linked to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Gatekeepers News reports that Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who delivered the ruling on Monday, ordered El-Rufai to provide one surety in like sum. The surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and resident in either Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja.
The court also directed the surety to submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property valued at not less than the bail amount, alongside proof of salary payments for at least three months, a tax clearance certificate, affidavit of means, and a verification letter from the surety’s department.
As part of the bail conditions, El-Rufai was ordered to surrender all valid international passports and report to the headquarters of Department of State Services every last Friday of the month pending the determination of the case. The judge warned that failure to comply with any of the conditions would lead to automatic revocation of the bail.
The former Governor is facing a five-count charge filed by the DSS over alleged unlawful interception of communications involving Ribadu.
Prosecutors alleged El-Rufai admitted during an interview on Arise TV in February that he and others intercepted the NSA’s phone conversations. He has, however, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
