A student of Lagos State University, Joseph Otabor, has died from injuries he sustained during an armed robbery attack in the Iba area of Lagos State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the university announced his death in a statement on Thursday, saying the incident occurred on the night of May 29 when he and his friends were attacked by suspected robbers outside the campus.
According to the institution, Otabor, a student in the Department of History and International Studies, was rushed to the hospital after the attack but later died on Tuesday while receiving treatment.
The university said it immediately intervened after learning of the incident, maintaining contact with medical personnel and monitoring his condition throughout his hospitalization.
LASU added that it has been in touch with the deceased’s family, officials of the university teaching hospital, and security agencies. The institution said it is cooperating with law enforcement authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the attack and the arrest of those responsible.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, expressed condolences to Otabor’s family, friends, and colleagues, describing the incident as a painful loss to the university community.
The tragedy comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the South-West, following recent cases of kidnappings and attacks reported in Lagos, Oyo, and Osun states.
