All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has picked 41-year-old Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as the deputy governorship candidate to run alongside Dr. Obafemi Hamzat ahead of the 2027 general elections in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that the decision, according to party sources, is part of the ruling party’s strategy to strengthen its ticket and consolidate political support across Lagos State, particularly in key grassroots strongholds such as Badagry and other divisions.

Reports indicate that Sonayon-James’ emergence followed internal consultations within the Lagos APC leadership, with the party seeking a younger and more female-inclusive balance on its governorship ticket.

She is expected to serve as running mate to Hamzat, who recently emerged as the APC governorship candidate for Lagos State, positioning the party for another competitive election cycle in 2027.

Sonayon-James, a grassroots politician and party mobiliser, currently serves in the Lagos APC structure and has been active in community development and political organisation within the state.

Her selection has already sparked reactions within political circles, especially among party members who view it as a strategic move to broaden the party’s appeal among women and youth voters.

The APC leadership is expected to officially unveil the ticket as campaign preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, where the party will be aiming to retain control of Lagos State.
