Nigerian troops have recovered a cache of weapons, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other equipment after engaging suspected Lakurawa terrorists in a gun battle in Kebbi State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Nigerian Army said the operation was carried out on June 14 in the Dogon Daji area of Dandi Local Government Area as part of ongoing efforts by Operation Fansan Yamma to eliminate terrorist and bandit groups operating in the North-West.

During the offensive, troops reportedly overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee.

According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division, soldiers pursued the fleeing insurgents along their withdrawal routes and recovered a large quantity of arms, explosives, and logistics equipment left behind in their camp.

Items recovered during the operation included rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launch tubes, several RPG warheads, multiple improvised explosive devices, two motorcycles used by the terrorists for mobility, battery chargers, and other personal belongings.

The Army said no soldier was killed or injured during the encounter, describing the operation as another significant success in the military’s campaign against terrorism and banditry in the region.

Military authorities added that the outcome reflects the commitment of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, to sustaining pressure on criminal and terrorist groups threatening communities across the North-West.

The Lakurawa group has emerged as a major security threat in parts of Kebbi and Sokoto states in recent years, with authorities linking the group to attacks on communities, security personnel, and cross-border criminal activities.
