The Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Sokoto State, Prof. Isa Maishanu, today led an inspection team to the proposed site for the construction of an ultra modern sports complex at Sokoto State University, Sokoto.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Kabir Garba Gobir; the Vice Chancellor of Sokoto State University, Professor M. B. Yerima; members of the university management; the Director of Physical Planning; and other senior officials.
The sports complex project is a special intervention facilitated by the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, through the support of Mustafa Ladan in collaboration with the National Sports Commission under the Federal Ministry of Sports Development Abuja.
According to a statement dated June 30th, by Ibrahim Iya, PRO of the ministry, the intervention Government will benefit both Sokoto State University and Government Science Secondary School (GSS) Yabo, providing modern sporting facilities that will promote sports development and youth engagement in the state.
The Commissioner said that all necessary arrangements for the project have been completed and that the contractor will soon mobilize to the site to commence construction.
Speaking during the inspection, the Vice Chancellor of Sokoto State University, Professor M. B. Yerima, expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, for facilitating the timely intervention.
He noted that within three years of the Governor’s administration, numerous developmental projects have been executed at the university, significantly improving its infrastructure and learning environment.
Professor Yerima also commended the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Maishanu, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kabir Garba Gobir, and the directors and staff of the Ministry for their unwavering support, cooperation, and commitment to the development of the university.
In a related development, Professor Isa Maishanu visited the Shehu Shagari University of Education, Sokoto (SSUES) to inspect the newly completed Faculty of Education building. He was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Malami Umar Tambuwal, alongside members of the university’s management team.
After touring the facility, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the quality of construction, the standard of materials used, and the furnishing of the new Faculty of Education building. He described the project as a significant addition to the university’s academic infrastructure and commended all those involved in its successful execution.
Throughout the inspection visits, the Honourable Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kabir Garba Gobir; the newly appointed Permanent Secretary, Jibrin Sa’adu; the Director of Quality Assurance, Malami Shu’aibu; the Director of Academic Planning, Liyau Alkali; and other senior officials of the Ministry of Higher Education.
