All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a significant political gain in Sokoto State following the defection of thousands of members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gorau Town, the political base of the lawmaker representing Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency, Hon. Bashir Usman Gorau.
Gatekeepers News reports that the mass defection took place in Gorau/Takakume Ward of Goronyo Local Government Area and is being viewed as a major boost for the APC in Sokoto East Senatorial District, as the area is regarded as the stronghold of one of the ADC’s most prominent elected officials.
The defectors were received at a rally attended by APC leaders, stakeholders and supporters, who described the development as evidence of the party’s growing acceptance in the state and increasing confidence in the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.
Speaking at the event, APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Sokoto East, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Sarkin Alaru, welcomed the new members and assured them of equal opportunities within the party. He said the APC remains committed to inclusive leadership and the development of Sokoto State.
Alaru also praised the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau, for his grassroots mobilisation efforts, saying his commitment to the people contributed significantly to the party’s expanding support in the area.
Addressing the gathering, Hussaini Gorau attributed the growing wave of defections across the state to the leadership of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto and the political influence of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko. He said the administration’s investments in road construction, rural development, agriculture, security and efforts to combat banditry had continued to attract more residents to the APC.
The APC Chairman in Goronyo Local Government Area, Alhaji Sa’idu Muhammad Goronyo, urged the new members to remain committed to the party and work together to strengthen its presence across the local government.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Nasiru Mukhtar Gorau said they decided to join the APC after assessing the achievements of the Governor Ahmad Aliyu-led administration, particularly in infrastructure development, improved security and the provision of essential amenities in rural communities.
The rally also featured the presentation of awards to the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau; and the APC’s Sokoto East Senatorial candidate, Alhaji Umar Ajiya, in recognition of their contributions to community development and the growth of the party.
