Senior policymakers, financial experts and business leaders from across Africa have converged in Abuja for the seventh African Emerging Markets Forum, where discussions are focused on strengthening the continent’s resilience amid growing global economic uncertainty.
Gatekeepers News reports that the forum, taking place at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has drawn key government officials, including CBN Governor Oluyemi Cardoso, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji.
Participants from across the continent are joining the discussions, while the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is also expected to attend the event.
Held under the theme, “Building Resilience Amidst Geoeconomic Uncertainties,” the forum is providing a platform for policymakers and finance experts to examine strategies for navigating volatility in global and domestic markets, while exploring ways to boost investment and expand financial inclusion across Africa.
Delivering his welcome address, the CBN Deputy Governor for Corporate Services, Muhammad Abdullahi, acknowledged the mounting pressure global economic developments have placed on emerging economies. However, he stressed that the current challenges also present opportunities to strengthen fiscal and monetary policies.
He said that although global market disruptions continue to affect developing economies, the situation offers a chance to achieve improved fiscal and monetary outcomes.
