Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division Garrison and 103 Battalion have recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines and 133 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from a forest in Enugu State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the weapons were recovered during a military operation targeting suspected kidnappers in the forests and surrounding communities of Oji River Local Government Area of the state.
According to TheCable, the troops recovered the weapons from the location believed to have been used by a kidnapping syndicate to conceal its arms.
The operation followed an earlier joint military task force mission that led to the rescue of Ofor Amobi, a senior Army officer, and Ikechukwu Onwuanra, a civilian, after a 10-day search-and-rescue operation across forests and communities in Enugu.
The search operation covered Inyi, Awlaw and Akpugo-Eze forests and adjoining communities in Oji River LGA.
The latest recovery is part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks and deny criminal groups access to weapons and forest hideouts in the South-East.
